Up at 7:30 – Sent a telegram to Dick Kneeland asking him to call me. Wrote a letter to Dick Rund + looked again for my “Fitzwilly” call sheet. Just can’t find it anywhere. The only good thing about it is that every time I rummage in the office I get a little something more cleaned up. I underlined role in “my 3 sons” – it is quite a good part, really. Winnie came down stairs with a quiet gleam on her face. Is fitting into some pants she couldn’t get on before. So good to have some tangible results. She’s been just great on the diet. This is our 5th day. She’s also been good about not weighing daily. We played a game of spite and malice + at last I won. I called Celeste and asked her to send any of Rita’s things that she has. Told her about typist. She seemed pleased + said she would + would write Judy. And said that Marge was aware of the price of the painting. I worked a little but not enough on “Idiot’s Delight.” Lyle + Jimmy here at 3. Rehearsal went extremely well. Even for Idiot’s Delight which at least I have an inkling of now. The work is up to me. Lyle off [crossed out words] Tuesday morning for Europe fpr 3 weeks. Newcomb called. Wants to come here with Busy the weekend of the 20th, (His birthday) sounded a little forlorn so pleased when I said I’d love to have them. (He called during rehearsal + I called him back after.) [crossed out word] It should be fun and Newcomb above all deserving a little fun. During rehearsal Mary Parker taught Winnie how to make those lined burlap purses and she turned out a very good looking one. Dick called at 7:30 and I explained about the film test to him. He said he’d think on it. Will be out here in about 10 days. Mary Parker helped us fix the fish. We each cut off head. (ugh) Good dinner. I worked on the guest lists for the IRS. At 10 we watched Mission Impossible. Winnie to bed. I sorted Rita’s poetry alphabetically + found an interesting variation on “Luxembourg – Winter Day “among the “duplicates” – wrote Celeste + made a pkge of stuff for her – Mailed tax info.
